#221 In 2001, my mother…Helena Batalion Farbiarz, a Holocaust Survivor…called me to ask if she could come to Arkansas to live with me. She was 84 years old and had had a TIA stroke and it scared her. My father had died 10 years earlier and mom was finally ready to ask for help. I said come on down
#95 I was a foreign student in NY in 1994. Sometimes, walking around town I would go into a church, always a beautiful and calming space to come to. One time I started crying as I sat there. A homeless guy came up to me, and said God be with you. All I could say was you too. He was a compassionate man.
#36 I was a female traveling solo to India for the first time. Throughout the journey, I met kind strangers who wanted to ensure my safety and escorted me voluntarily above and beyond until I reached my destinations. When I did not have enough of something, they took care of it. Today we are friends.
#20 Sitting at the National Press Club watching Karen unveil the words of the Charter to the world for the first time. The video of the words of the Charter just played and I’m overwhelmed with a sense of possibility! Can this change the world?
#15 This year I planted a garden in my curb strip to help out my less fortunate neighbors. At the end of the summer, a man stoped by and told me that he and his wife lost their jobs and my garden was their only sorce for fresh vegitables. I’m now trying to get funding for a large community garden.
#6 While riding the tube, I witnessed a family go out of their way to escort an elderly woman, who had poor vision and didn’t speak English, from the train to her connecting line. Amidst such a massive crowd, it was heartwarming to see these strangers work to help her find her way.
#7 today a woman from brussels, belgium, lifted my soul with “UNCONDITIONAL LOVE” as seldom witnessed prior…..in my life! she heard my plea for medical assistance and, provided me with both, the emotional strength and financial support, enabling me to be treated appropriately, 2TheGraceOf ALL.EIN!
#3 I am enormously grateful to everyone who contributed so extensively and generously to the realization of this project - such compassion, devotion and empathy. View site »
#2 Today someone gave me a cab because I was in a rush and had no umbrella. To see someone else be so generous and compassionate to me made my day.
#1 Today I unveiled the Charter for Compassion at a press briefing in Washington, DC. I am amazed to see my wish fulfilled and to see compassion return to a prominent place in the global conversation.
