Early morning, bus could not go up the hill in deep snow. People got out & moved on. I stood alone, cold, worried, did not know the area nor speak the language. A native instructed his personal attendant to be w/me. He carried my heavy bag up the steep hill to my final destination. I was moved.

Old couple attended the Dalai Lama’s teaching. Next day, husband asked me to take care of his wife since he could not go. I did so. To express thanks they invited me to a private meeting w/the Dalai Lama. My dream came true from strangers. I cried for 20 min after being w/him. They were his friends.

I was a female traveling solo to India for the first time. Throughout the journey, I met kind strangers who wanted to ensure my safety and escorted me voluntarily above and beyond until I reached my destinations. When I did not have enough of something, they took care of it. Today we are friends.

I approached a store and outside on the ground was an old Japanese man begging. Instead of giving him money, I invited him for lunch. He told of how his daughter died in a car accident and left two boys. The man begs on the side to help the kids. And then I drove him to his home.

#148 Jessica will die in a few days from a cancerous brain tumor, she is 8 years old. Recently my 10 year old son, Jacob, wore a tuxedo for her Make a Wish-Princess Party in order to be her Prince Charming. He also gave a speech about how wonderful Jessica is and how special knowing her has been to him.
#142 With my four month old twins in tow, I was looking after my father who was dying of cancer in an out-of-town hospital. Ruth, the wife of another patient also dying of cancer, offered to sleep with the twins in the hospital lobby so that I could comfort my father in one of his last nights.
#141 Last week, I met a couple who had recently become parents to an intersex child. I learned from them that their minister, unable to understand this, had refused to christen their child. I called around and found three ministers who were willing to perform the ceremony and provide pastoral care. View site »
#118 A homeless man sat on the curb outside a coffee shop. He was dirty and smelled pretty bad. People kept walking by him as if he didn’t exist. There was a great sadness about him so I said “Hello.” He told me his story and I listened. Sometimes all you can do is acknowledge that someone is hurting.
#46 I was standing on a train platform on my commute home worrying because my fiance had lost his job the day before. A woman saw the sadness in my face and came up to me and said “don’t worry, things will get better”. Her kind words were unasked for, but incredibly reassuring and heartwarming.
#40 After being struck by a car in a hit and run while walking across the street over a year ago, a bystander ran after the car to identify the license plate. Another contacted my husband while I was unconsious to let him know what happened and where to find me. I’m grateful for their aid & compassion.
#15 This year I planted a garden in my curb strip to help out my less fortunate neighbors. At the end of the summer, a man stoped by and told me that he and his wife lost their jobs and my garden was their only sorce for fresh vegitables. I’m now trying to get funding for a large community garden.
